1. International market
Steel prices in major overseas markets continued to weaken this week. In the United States, the prices of both hot and cold sheets showed a downward trend this week, with the mainstream price of hot coils at USD 1,160/ton and that of cold coils at USD 1,390/ton. At present, domestic steel prices in the United States are easy to fall but hard to rise, the market pessimism is spreading, and some processing centers are more willing to reduce inventory. On the demand side, the purchase willingness of downstream steel-consuming enterprises in the United States is still light. At present, the order sales of steel mills in the third quarter are likely to be lower than the level of the same period last year, and short-term steel prices may continue to run weakly. From the perspective of Europe, the domestic spot price of mainstream hot coils in Germany has dropped to about 760 euros/ton, and downstream steel companies are less willing to purchase them. In India, the quotation of European standard hot coil is 620-640 euros/ton CFR Italy, and a small number of orders have been traded. In the Middle East, the price advantage of resources in the Middle East has been prominent recently, with tens of thousands of tons exported and sold to Hong Kong, China Taiwan, and Singapore respectively, and the transaction level is 560-570 US dollars/ton CFR. In contrast, exports of Malaysian resources to Singapore are reported at around US$575/ton CFR.
2. Overview of the import and export market
Hot-rolled coils: With the decline of domestic steel prices, the export price of mainstream common coils in the northern region fell below US$540/ton FOB this week, and some low-priced resources fell to around US$520/ton FOB. It is understood that Chinese steel prices continued to fall this week, and there were more inquiries from overseas buyers, but the counter-offer prices were much lower than the steel mills' intended export prices. Some merchants believe that China's steel prices have reached the bottom, so they purchase on demand. This week, the overall export orders of thermal-type plates are acceptable. In addition, Formosa Ha Tinh, a large steel mill in Vietnam, lowered the price of hot coil for delivery in July again, and the adjusted price of SAE1006 hot coil is US$580/ton CFR Vietnam. It is understood that after the price adjustment of Formosa Plastics Ha Tinh, the purchase inquiries of Vietnamese local traders have increased significantly, but the transactions are still very few.
Cold-rolled coils: The price of mainstream DC01 cold-rolled coils in northern steel mills dropped to around US$620/ton FOB this week. From the perspective of overseas cold coil prices, the recent export price of Russian DC01 cold coils is at least US$100/ton higher than that of Chinese resources. Although Russia has the advantage of transportation distance, with the cost of freight, Middle East merchants still prefer to purchase Chinese resources. The quotations of Japanese and Korean resources of the same material are above US$700/ton FOB, and there are also a small number of orders exported to South Korea and South America.
